PHP SmartyPants

The original SmartyPants library was created as a plugin for Movable Type, Blosxom, and BBEdit, automatically converting various combinations of ASCII characters into HTML formatting tags.

As the original, this PHP port works the same, converting stuff like:
"text", 'text', and ``text'' into “text”
"--" or "---" into "—"
". . ." into "…"

As you can see, all of these modifications do not change the meaning or the purpose of the characters, but merely properly format the text by interchanging characters that allude to a punctuation point with the proper punctuation mark.

The library is compatible with standalone PHP applications, WordPress installations, and the Smarty template engine.
