Peach OSI is an open source distribution of Linux derived from the world’s most popular free operating system, Ubuntu. It is designed for both adults and kids, and suitable for modern or low-end machines.

It’s distributed as a 32-bit/64-bit Live DVDs

The distro can be downloaded via Softoware or directly from its official website (see the homepage link above) as a two Live DVD ISO images of approximately 2GB in size each. They have been designed for both 32-bit and 64-bit computers.

Features a standard boot menu

When booting the Live DVD ISO image from the BIOS of a computer, users will encounter a boot menu from where they can start the live system with a default kernel or in safe graphics mode, start the installer directly, run a memory test, as well as to boot the first disk drive.

Uses a unique graphical desktop environment

The Peach OSI’s best feature is its unique graphical desktop environment, which comprises of a panel located on the upper side of the screen and a dock (application launcher) located on the bottom edge of the screen.

Features a Mac OS X-like Launchpad

The top panel is designed to allow the user to navigate the main menu, search and launch applications, interact with running programs and system functions, as well as to access the system tray area. On the other hand, the dock includes shortcuts for your favorite apps, as well as a Launchpad feature, just like the one of the Mac OS X operating system.

Contains a vast amount of open source apps

Among the pre-installed apps, we can mention the AbiWord word processor, Ardour digital audio workstation, Banshee music player, digiKam photo manager, Blender 3D modeller, GIMP image editor, KeePassX password manager, Midor web browser, LibreCAD CAD system, LibreOffice office suite, Geary email reader and Muon Package Manager.
