NetBOSS is an open source distribution of Linux that provides users with a special edition of the well known BOSS GNU/Linux operating system, specifically engineered to be installed and used on netbook computers.
BOSS GNU/Linux is a free and open source Debian-based distribution designed by C-DAC (Centre for Development of Advanced Computing) for the Indian Linux community. It is distributed into multiple editions, all of them available for download on Softoware.
Availability and boot options
This flavor is distributed as a single, DVD-size ISO image that should only be deployed on a USB flash drive for installing the operating system on netbook computers. Supported architectures include both 32-bit (i386) and 64-bit (amd64).The installer boot menu offers three main options and a help entry. Users will be able to install the operating system using either the graphical installer or the text mode installer. In addition, you can access the expert install, automated install, alternative desktop environments, and a rescue mode from the advanced options entry.
Features at a glance
The default desktop environment is GNOME, but you can also choose to install KDE, LXDE or Xfce. The installation process is straightforward, allowing users to choose their preferred language, select a location and keyboard layout, set the root (system administrator) password, add a user, and select a disk partitioning schema.It uses a unique and beautiful desktop environment that features a single top panel, from where users can find and launch applications, as well as to access places and devices, the system tray area and a calendar.
Default applications include the Iceweasel web browser, Icedove email client, Pidgin multi-protocol instant messenger, Cheese webcam viewer, Totem movie player, OpenOffice.org office suite, Banshee music player, F-Spot image viewer and organizer, Ekiga softphone, and many others.
