The Minimalist Twitter Widget plugin is one of the few Twitter sidebar widgets that works with the new Twitter API and its OAuth authentication model.
While most of WordPress Twitter sidebar widgets went dead since Twitter changed its API, a few of them were updated and still managed to keep their users.
If you're the user of one of those plugins and you're looking for a new tool, the Minimalist Twitter Widget is a good alternative, coming with all the basic features you might expect from such a tool.
This includes the ability to retrieve your own or someone else's tweets, the ability to customize the desired hashtag term, the ability to customize the number of tweets to retrieve, a built-in caching system, and the ability to use multiple widgets on the same page.
Installation:
Unpack and upload it to the /wp-content/plugins/ directory.
Activate the plugin through the 'Plugins' menu in WordPress.
What is new in this release:
- Tweets displayed by shortcode should appear where the shortcode is placed, not before any other content.
- Fixed an issue with displaying Retweets within a hashtag search.
- General code improvements.
- Added a "Debug Mode", if enabled it will display the raw data received from Twitter to allow easier diagnosis of issues.

- The option to decide if Replies and Retweets are shown.
- Linkified Twitter handles in Replies & Mentions.
- Smarter caching.
