MIB Views

MIB Views is a commercial, cross-platform and entry-level SNMP management graphical software that provides an easy-to-use tabbed interface, which gives users quick access to several SNMP tools, such as Tree View, SNMP Query, SNMP Walk, Table View, and Trap Watch.

While the Tree View tool offers a tree-based MIB browser interface, the SNMP Query tool can send custom get, get-bulk, get-next and set requests, the SNMP Walk tool can walk an entire agent or a specific subtree, the Table View tool can examine parts of a table or an entire one, and the Trap Watch tool can monitor incoming notifications, including inform requests and traps.

Features at a glance

The software allows users to manage multiple agents at once, to ilter tables and lists instantly using substring matching, to examine hex dumps (in real-time) of received and sent SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) packets, as well as to quickly jump to desired data using the built-in web browser-like "goto" entry.

Additionally, the application supports HMAC-SHA-96 and HMAC-MD5-96 authentication, supports CBC-DES encryption (privacy), supports community-based SNMP version 1, SNMP version 2c and SNMP version 3, with SHA and MD5 authentication, as well as DES (Data Encryption Standard) encryption.

Supported on a wide range of operating systems

MIB Views is a true cross-platform application supported on a wide range of operating systems, including all GNU/Linux distributions, as well as FreeBSD 6.2 or higher, Solaris 10 or later, Microsoft Windows (NT, 2000, XP, 7), Mac OS X (Intel and PPC). It currently runs on 32-bit, 64-bit and SPARC architectures.

On GNU/Linux, the software is available for download as a 15-day trial, distributed as pre-build binary packages for both 32 and 64-bit computer platforms. A single license costs 95 USD (approximately 80 EUR). Please check the project’s homepage for more details (see link below).

What is new in this release:

• This release fixes a potential crash when adding or removing MIBs. It also fixes an issue where the GUI could become stuck displaying an error dialog would keep coming back when dismissed, requiring the application to be killed externally, if a saved agent file was renamed or removed while in use.
• Support for saving agents to file was added in 2.0. Normally the GUI will check to see if the file has been modified when the window gets focus (in case it was modified externally) to give the user an opportunity to reload the file. If the file were renamed or removed, the error would occur; then when the error was dismissed, the window would get focus again, and so trigger the error again. MIB Views neglected to check if the file still existed before trying to check its modification time.
