Lubuntu-LXQt is an unofficial, totally free and open source edition of the popular Lubuntu Linux operating system build around the brand-new LXQt graphical desktop environment, a fork of the Razor-qt and LXDE desktop environments.
Distributed as a dual-arch Live CD
The distro is available for download as a dual-arch and hybrid Live CD ISO image that fits perfectly on a CD disc or a USB thumb drive of 1GB or higher capacity. It includes software packages compatible with both 64-bit (amd64) and 32-bit (i386) hardware platforms.
Boot options à la Lubuntu
The Live CD boot menu is identical with the one of the upstream Lubuntu Linux operating systems, allowing users to change the default language for the live system from the get-go. Default boot options include the ability to try the operating system without installing it, start the installer directly, run a memory test, boot from the local drive or test the integrity of the bootable medium (only if booting from a CD disc).
LXQt looks traditional, familiar
As mentioned and as its name suggests, the main emphasis of the Lubuntu-LXQt desktop-oriented operating system is the brand-new LXQt graphical desktop environment, which looks traditional and familiar. It comprises of a single taskbar located on the bottom edge of the screen, which includes main menu, task manager, system tray area and workspace switcher applets.
Default applications
Various open source applications have been pre-installed in this unofficial LXQt edition of the Lubuntu Linux distribution. Among the most popular ones, we can mention the QupZilla web browser, JuffEd text editor, PCManFM file manager, LXImage image viewer, Qtransmission torrent downloader, VLC Media Player, GParted partition editor, QTerminal, XTerm and UXTerm Linux terminal emulators, as well as qpdfview PDF document viewer. A screenshot utility and various other configuration tools for the LXQt desktop environment are also implemented.
