JeOSS Linux is an open source Linux kernel-based operating system based off of the world’s most popular distribution of Linux, Ubuntu, and designed from the ground up to help talented system administrators transform normal computers into dedicated server systems.

It’s distributed as a 32-bit install CD

This Ubuntu-based, server-oriented operating system is distributed as an installable-only CD ISO image that has been optimized to work only with computers that support the 32-bit (i386) instruction set architecture.

Features three main options on the boot menu

From the boot prompt, the user can choose to start a SSH (Secure Shell Console Control), a Serial Console Control, as well as a Physical Console Control. Each boot entry can be edited by pressing the Tab key. Newbies can find detailed information about the available boot options on the Help screen, by pressing the F1 key.

Contains pre-configure server-oriented software packages

Among the pre-installed and pre-configured server-oriented software packages, we can mention OpenSSH open-source Secure Shell server, Asterisk PBX (Private Branch Exchange), Webmin remote administration interface, Apache and Lightpd web servers and ProFTPD FTP server.

In addition, the Rpcapd remote traffic capture daemon, Midnight Commander two-pane file manager and Madwifi-ng Atheros Wi-Fi driver are also included in the operating system.

Supports full PXE network installation

As metnioned, the operating system can only be installed on a local drive, featuring an x86 (32-bit) i586 (not-PAE) low latency server-oriented kernel, full support for PXE network installation, full support for SSH and Serial Console installation, as well as direct installation on flash-based devices.

Minimum system requirements

JeOSS Linux has been engineered to work well on a computer with a Pentium II or later processor, at least 128MB of RAM (system memory), as well as a network card, despite the fact that no Internet connection is required during the entire installation process.
