jEdit is a cross-platform, programmer's text editor written in Java. Some of jEdit's features include it runs on MacOS X, OS/2, Unix, VMS, and Windows. It has built-in macro language and extensible plug-in architecture. Dozens of macros and plug-ins available, plug-ins can be downloaded and installed from within jEdit using the 'plug-in manager' feature. It is auto indent and syntax highlighting for more than 80 languages. It supports a large number of character encoding including UTF8 and Unicode, folding for selectively hiding regions of text, and word wrap.
