Highslide JS is one of the first modal windowing scripts that were available for free on the Internet, a small library written in vanilla JavaScript to expand image thumbnails to their natural aspect ratio on the same page.

This technique, also known as lightbox or modal window is now part of every UI framework around and is considered an unofficial standard for showing images on a Web page.

Highslide JS comes with a dual licensing model in place. The library is free for non-commercial products, while a paid license is need for commercial work.

Highslide JS  was previously known as the Vevstein Thumbnail Expander.
