Hag GNU/Linux is an open source and free distribution of Linux based on the Grml operating system, which in turn is based off of Knoppix, which in turn is derived from the award-winning Debian GNU/Linux distro. It provides users with a minimal, desktop-oriented operating system.

It’s distributed as a dual-arch Live CD

The Hag GNU/Linux distribution is available for download as a dual-arch Live CD ISO image that will successfully boot on modern computers supporting the 64-bit architecture, as well as on old 32-bit machines. You can write the ISO image to either a CD disc or a USB thumb drive that you can later boot it from the BIOS of a PC.

A “scary” boot prompt with a minimalist design

At the boot prompt, if you’re not to scared to use it, press the Enter key to boot the live system or view detailed information about possible boot options using the F2 to F10 keys on your keyboard.

The Hag GNU/Linux Quick Config

Immediately after the system boots, you will be prompted by the Hag GNU/Linux Quick Config, from where you are forced to press a highlighted key to perform an action. Most users should just press the “x” key to start the graphical desktop environment.

Fluxbox is in charge of the graphical session

After pressing the “x” key, you will be able to choose between running the Fluxbox window manager with Hag’s standard configuration (press “s”) or with default configuration (press “v”). Choosing the first options, with Hag’s standard configuration, you will get a beautiful, simple and clean desktop environment built around the Fluxbox window manager.

Getting started with Hag GNU/Linux

Fluxbox is a minimalist desktop environment, a window manager actually, where you must use the right-click context menu to access the main menu and launch applications. The distribution comes with a minimal set of applications.
