GNOME Online Miners is an open source and freely distributed command-line software designed from the ground up to provide a set of crawlers that will scan your online content and index it locally. It uses the Tracker application, which is available in the GNOME desktop environment, as a front-end to store the indexed content that will be available (searchable) to the end-user.
GNOME Documents and GNOME 3.10
This project was initially designed as part of the GNOME Documents applications, which crawls your Documents folder from the Home directory of your GNU/Linux distribution and lists all file types recognized. The first stable version of GNOME Online Miners was released as part of the GNOME 3.10 desktop environment, as a standalone package.
Supports popular online services
At the moment, the GNOME Online Miners application includes miners for several well-known online services, including Facebook, Google, ownCloud, Picasa and Flickr online services. In addition, it provides supports for DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) media servers.
Under the hood and availability
The program is written entirely in the C programming language and can be installed on any open-source desktop environment under any GNU/Linux operating system. It will require some important GNOME core components, such as GNOME Online Accounts, various libraries like libgsf, liboauth, libmediaart and libzapojit, as well as other standalone applications like Tracker.
It is available for download from Softoware (see the dedicated download section above) as a universal source tarball, distributed along with the GNOME Project. Users must manually configure and compile the program prior to installation when using the sources archive.
