FAI-CD Multi Distribution

FAI-CD Multi Distribution is an open source and free distribution of Linux designed for system administrators who are looking for a universal solution to deploy three different Linux kernel-based operating systems on one or multiple computers at the same time.

It is distributed as a 64-bit installable-only ISO image

The Multi Distribution edition of FAI-CD is available for download from Softoware or directly from the project’s homepage (see link above) as an installable-only ISO image that fits perfectly on a CD disc and supports 64-bit compatible computers.

Includes three powerful Linux flavors

The distro comes with support for three powerful Linux flavors: Debian GNU/Linux, CentOS and Scientific Linux Cern. Each new release of the FAI-CD Multi Distribution will come with updated versions of these open-source operating systems, which are installable with a click of a button (see the next section for details).

Default boot options

Default boot options include the ability to install the Debian GNU/Linux operating system with or without the Xfce desktop environment, install the CentOS distribution with or without the X11 Window System, as well as to install the Scientific Linux Cern distro with or without the X.Org display server. In addition, it is possible to start the FAI rescue system, run a memory test or boot an existing OS from the local drive.

All of the installations are fully automatic

All of the aforementioned installations are fully automatic and non-interactive. This means that the boot menu described above is the only point where you interact with the FAI-CD distribution before the installation starts and until the system reboots.

Don’t forget to note the username and password of each boot entry before starting it. After reboot, you will have to login into the installed system using the “root” username and the “fai” password, without quotes.
