Disable Window Animations is a GNOME Shell extension that can disable the window manager animations of the GNOME 3 desktop environment.
It also works for the workspace switching effect.
To install this extension you must have GNOME Shell installed or Cinnamon. However, keep in mind that it was not tested with Cinnamon.
