Commentar is a self-hosted, modular, and open source commenting system that was created specifically to be both very portable and easy to configure.
The commenting system's data can be stored in a wide variety of mediums and the text can be formatted and displayed using popular formats like BBCode, Markdown, HTML, or plain text.
For each added opinion users can reply with nested threaded comments, can share the comment on various social networks, and can vote on its validity using a classic thumbs up/down buttons.
Commentar can also be closed/restricted to registered users only, requiring members to authenticate before they can view or reply to a comment.
The commenting system's UI can be modified via themes, and the comments themselves can be moderated by the site's admin.
Overall the Commentar system provides a solid, lighter alternative to commenting services like Facebook, Google+, or Disqus, and its modular structures will allow developers to add it to any projects they might have to work on.
