Caixa Magica Server is an open source and totally free Linux kernel-based operating system developed by the Portuguese community for 32-bit and 64-bit processors, and based on the Debian/Ubuntu Linux distributions. Caixa Magica is a distribution of Linux oriented towards Portuguese-speaking users.
As its name suggests, it is a special edition of the the Caixa Magica Linux operating system designed from the ground up to be deployed on server systems. It doesn’t feature a graphical interface and comes with a wide range of server-related software packages.
Distributed as 32-bit and 64-bit CD-size ISO images
The server edition of Caixa Magica is available for download as two installable ISO images that fit perfectly on CD discs or USB thumb drives of 1GB of higher capacity and include software packages optimized for 32-bit (i386) and 64-bit (amd64) instruction set architectures.
Boot options
The boot menu allows the user to install Caixa Magica Server, check the disc for defects (only if booting from a CD media), test the memory, boot an existing operating system or rescue a broken OS. While the default language on the boot menu is Portuguese, you can change it to your native language by pressing the F2 key.
Installing Caixa Magica Server
The installation takes place in text-mode, similar to the installation of the Alternate CDs of the Ubuntu Linux operating system. You will be required to choose the language to be used or the installation wizard and the final system, select your location, configure your keyboard, configure the network, set up users and passwords, configure the clock, partition disks, configure the package manager, select and install software, as well as to install the GRUB bootloader.
Offers a wide variety of servers
Caixa Magica Server provides users with a wide variety of servers, which can be enabled/installed on the “Select and Install Software” screen of the installer, among which we can mention OpenSSH server, DNS server, LAMP server, Mail server, PostgreSQL server, Print server, Samba file server, Tomcat Java server or Virtual Machine host.
