AWbian is a free and open source distribution of Linux derived from the award-winning and highly acclaimed Debian GNU/Linux operating system and built around the minimalist, developer-oriented Awesome window manager.
Distributed as a dual-arch Live CD
The AWbian distro is available for download on Softoware as a Live CD ISO image that fits perfectly on a CD disc and features a dual-arch architecture, which means that you can run it on your old 32-bit computer or on a modern 64-bit machine. The ISO image is hybrid, so we strongly recommend you to write it on a USB thumb drive of 1GB or higher capacity.
Offers standard boot options
The Live CD offers standard boot options, which will appear when you boot the ISO image from the BIOS of your computer using either a CD disc or a USB stick. From there, you can start the live system in RAM (system memory), allowing you to eject the bootable medium, with normal configuration or in failsafe mode, in case some of your computer’s hardware components aren’t recognized by the main boot option. Additionally, it is possible to run a memory test or boot the local drive.
Awesome desktop environment
As mentioned, AWbian is built around the Awesome window manager, which is uses for the default graphical session. Its layout is pretty standard, comprised of an interactive panel that is located on the upper side of the screen, from where users can cycle between nine virtual workspaces, interact with opened programs, as well as to change the layout and access essential system functions.
