The Apache Velocity DocBook Framework works by using Velocity templates to help developers output standards compliant, professional looking, and printer friendly documentation.
All the documentation is rendered in the DocBook format, a well-known markup language used for describing technical documentation used mainly in computer software development.
The DocBook language is basically an intermediary format from which documentation and guides can be outputted in other formats like HTML, EPUB, PDF, or "man" formats.
Because DocBook files are basically a custom XML document, the DocBook Framework helps developers generate these documentation guides but using Velocity as the central engine, taking the XML files and converting them to desired formats.
