Apache Lucy is an open source, free, full-text search engine library, specifically designed for dynamic programming languages, a "loose C" port of the Apache Lucene software.
Apache Lucy is extremely fast (a single machine can handle millions of documents), scalable to multiple machines, and provides highly customizable indexing and query APIs.
It features incremental indexing, including deletion and addition of documents to and from an existing index, configurable near-real-time index updates, Unicode support, phrase matching, customizable sorting, stemming, as well as support for boolean operators.
