Apache Commons Collections is somewhat of a mini-framework, a set of Java classes that can be loaded into a project and provide a new set of ready-made tools to use when developing your own application.
These classes are meant to be an extension to the Java Collections Framework that was included with every JDK version since 1.2 and address various common problems that developers might encounter.
Some of the areas and new features the Commons Collections package provides are:
- a new Bag interface
- a new BidiMap interface
- a new MapIterator interface
On top of these Commons Collections also adds:
- adaptor classes
- testing utilities
- comparator implementations
- iterator implementations
- reference maps
- ordered maps
- composite collections
What is new in this release:
- Java 5 or later is required.
- This release is not source or binary compatible with previous releases of Commons Collections. This includes releases from the 3.x branch as well as preceding alpha releases for 4.0.
- Use of generics and other language features introduced in Java 5
- Removed deprecated classes / methods and features which are now supported by the JDK
- Replaced Buffer interface with java.util.Queue
What is new in version 3.2.1:
- The v3.2.1 release is simply a re-packaging of the v3.2 release, with appropriate OSGi meta data added to the jar's manifest file.
