Outlook reminders are fine for telling you when you have an appointment, but when one isn't active they can not tell you how much time you have before your next appointment without opening up Outlook and switching to the calendar.
Ambient Schedule places a tiny icon in your notification area (aka system tray, where the clock in your task bar is) that switches from green to yellow to red. Glancing at the color you immediately know if your next 45 minutes are free, if you have less than a half hour to prepare for your meeting, or if you only have a few minutes to get to your meeting (configurable). See exactly when your meeting is by hovering your mouse over the notification area icon at any time.
Make the transition more noticeable by having a larger icon briefly fade on to your screen when the status changes. (Position fixed in v1.0.5, configurable next beta)
If you happen to own additional hardware, such as an Ambient Orb from AmbientDevices.com your information will be even more readily available! Set your orb to fade from green to yellow when you have an upcoming appointment, set it to gently pulse green when you have no more appointments for the day! Support for additional hardware, such as B&B Electronics serial interfaces and generic serial control, to be added in the next beta.
