Have you noticed how much time your kids spend on Facebook? Youtube? Have you noticed that they aren't doing so well at mathematics or that they keep coming to you to help them with their math homework? Now you can solve both problems with Aftermath. Aftermath is an innovative math education app that uses time on social networks as a reward for performance. Parents install the Aftermath software on family computers and decide which websites to time limit, such as Facebook and Youtube. When the kids try to access these websites they are redirected to a math challenge page where they must complete (correctly) math questions to earn time. In a sense Aftermath is a hybrid between a parental control Internet timer, web filter or web blocker and an e-learning application. However, Aftermath doesn't just block the Internet entirely. It turns the Internet into a reward for good (educational) behaviour. Kids are in control. They can earn as much time as they like. But they have to "learn to earn". Aftermath also helps kids recognize how much time they waste online. By making them earn time in advance, twenty minutes of fun on Facebook does not turn into two hours. Parents are in control of which websites are used as a reward. And each week the parent receives an email report of their kids' Aftermath performance. Teachers can also get involved (optional), by selecting the subject matter to be presented to the kid at home. Aftermath is aligned to Common Core and other international math curricula. Developed in partnership with world-respected Trinity College Dublin's Center for Information Technology in Education, Aftermath is built on a legacy of academic excellence.
