Adonis Linux Xfce is an open source distribution of Linux based on the highly acclaimed and rock-solid Debian GNU/Linux operating system and featuring the lightweight Xfce desktop environment. It is a desktop-oriented OS whose main design goal is to provide a modern and easy-to-use computer operating system.
Distributed as a dual-arch Live DVD
The Xfce edition of Adonis Linux can be downloaded via Softoware or from the project’s homepage (see link above) as a dual-arch Live DVD ISO image or approximately 1GB in size, deployable on either 64-bit (amd64) or 32-bit (i386) hardware platforms.
Boot options
The minimal, yet explicit boot menu is designed to allow the user to immediately start the live environment with default boot options and drivers or in safe graphics mode, in case the first boot option won’t recognize the video card. In addition, it is possible to start a memory test or boot an existing operating system from the first drive.
Beautified Xfce desktop environment
The Xfce setup used in this special edition of Adonis Linux is quite different from what we saw in the Adonis Linux Server operating system, as it features a top panel for quick access to pre-installed applications or interact with running programs, and a bottom dock (application launcher) from where you can effortlessly open your favorite apps.
Default applications
Default applications include the F-Spot image viewer and organizer, GIMP image editor, Chromium web browser, Pidgin multi-protocol instant messenger, Transmission torrent downloader, XChat IRC client, VLC Media Player, Brasero CD/DVD burning software, BleachBit system cleaner, Thunar file manager and Synaptic Package Manager.
Bottom line
Summing up, the Xfce edition of Adonis Linux is indeed a wonderful operating system that will run flawlessly on your old computer, and extremely fast on a decent or high-end machine. It will definitely help you to achieving your everyday tasks with minimum effort and in style.
