Apache Libcloud was created to simplify the process of writing cloud-based services and applications.

Libcloud offers a common API which developers can use to abstract their operations onto, and let the library's code handle all the differences between all these services.

Developers can deploy Libcloud in their code, select the cloud service provider they want and if they want to change the provider at any later point, this can be done by modifying a few lines of code instead of replacing the entire library.

Libcloud is also infrastructure and purpose-agnostic, working with cloud computing companies that provide services ranging from basic data storage, to load balancing and even DNS.
