eXtplorer

eXtplorer is an open source, freely distributed, easy to install, easy-to-use and platform-independent web-based application created from the ground up to act as a file manager powered by the PHP and JavaScript web technologies.

Includes all the common file-management functions

The application includes all the common file-management functions, allowing users to copy and move files and folders with drag and drop capabilities, as well as to edit files with syntax highlighting, and to rename, create or delete files and folders.

In addition, it allows users to access their files through FTP (File Transfer Protocol) or directly using PHP. You can also download or upload files, as well as to create and extract archives (supports tar.bz, tar.gz, tar and zip extensions).

Features dynamic directory tree

Another interesting feature of the eXtplorer web app is dynamic directory tree, which offers on-demand loading of sub-directories, user management with different permission levels, such as "Admin," "View only" or "Edit."

Getting started with eXtplorer

eXtplorer can be easily installed as a component for Joomla, by uploading the install file to your web host, or locally on Debian-based GNU/Linux operating systems. It runs on top of a web server.

To install it, download the latest release from its website or via Softoware, save the archive on a location of your choice, unpack it, open a FTP client, connect to your web server, and upload the files from the extracted folder to a folder on the root of your server.

Under the hood

A quick look under the hood of the eXtplorer application will tell us that the PHP server-side programming language and JavaScript scripting language have been used to write from scratch. Being a web-based software, eXtplorer is independent of an operating system or computer platform, thus usable only through a supported web browser from any computer or mobile OS.

What is new in version 2.1.5:

• This release fixes a vulnerability that allowed to access eXtplorer installations in Joomla! via the standalone interface bypassing the Joomla! authentication. Please update immediately if you're running eXtplorer in Joomla!

What is new in version 2.1.3:

• Versions 2.1.2, 2.1.1, 2.1.0 and 2.1.0RC5 have found to be vulnerable to an authentication bypass bug.
• This bug has been fixed in the latest release of eXtplorer (2.1.3), which you should download and install/upgrade immediately!
• If you just want a quick fix, please download the attached file called users.php and put it into the eXtplorer subfolder "/include", in Joomla! installations it can be found under "/administrator/components/com_extplorer/include". Just replace the existing file with this new one.
