Bitnami Ruby Stack

Bitnami Ruby Stack is a free, native and cross-platform graphical installer software that greatly simplifies the installation of Ruby on Rails and its runtime dependencies. It includes ready-to-run versions of Rails, Ruby, Subversion, Git, MySQL, RVM, MySQL, SQLite, Apache, Nginx, phpMyAdmin, Memcache, Sphinx, Varnish and PHP.

This special Bitnami Stack also includes some of the most popular gems for building Rails applications, such as Nokogiri, Thin, Mongrel, RMagick, Passenger and Rake the cURL, OpenLDAP, ImageMagick and OpenSSL technologies are also included.

What is Ruby on Rails?

Ruby on Rails is a full-stack MVC (Model-View-Controller) framework that has been designed to be used for database-backed web apps. It includes optimization for keeping the developers happy and productive at all times. Additionally, Ruby on Rails enables developers to write beautiful code.

Installing Bitnami Ruby Stack

Bitnami provides users with native installers for the Ruby Stack, which are compatible with all GNU/Linux distributions, as well as with the Mac OS X and Microsoft Windows operating systems. To install the Bitnami Ruby Stack on your personal computer, simply download the file that corresponds to your computer’s architecture (32-bit or 64-bit) using the dedicated download section above, run it and follow the instructions provided on the screen.

Run Ruby on Rails on the cloud

Thanks to Bitnami, you will be able to run the Ruby on Rails development platform on the cloud using a pre-built cloud image for Windows Azure or Amazon EC2 cloud hosting providers. In addition, you can use Bitnami’s virtual images built for Oracle VirtualBox and VMware ESX/ESXi to virtualize Ruby on Rails. The virtual machine is based on the latest LTS version of the Ubuntu Linux operating system.
