Apricity OS

Apricity OS is an open source, freely distributed, modern, and beautiful desktop-oriented operating system derived from the well-known Arch Linux distribution and built around the GNOME desktop environment, which has been stripped down to its basics in order to offer a low on resources system for all users.

The distro is available for download for free as a Live DVD ISO image that contains software packages optimized only for 64-bit (x86_64) instruction set architectures. You won't be able to use this OS on 32-bit machines. More details about Apricity OS and the software collection included are available in our review.

What is new in this release:

• The Apricity OS Team is incredibly happy to announce the release of Apricity OS 07.2016 Aspen, the first ever stable release of Apricity OS. Today Apricity OS 07.2016 Dev, another monthly development snapshot, is also being released. Many changes have been implemented since the last release, most notable of which is certainly Apricity Freezedry, a system configuration tool that has been integrated into the development build system for Apricity OS. With a simple TOML configuration file, many aspects of a system may be configured, including Gnome and Cinnamon themes and settings, installed packages, enabled systemd services, and enabled vim plugins (installed through Pathogen). Freezedry is built with modules, each in charge of controlling a specific aspect of a user's system. A full list of modules can be found on github. Other changes to the OS include LUKS encryption support in both the stable Aspen releas and the dev snapshot, a more stable installer, improved touchpad support, and fuller icon coverage.

What is new in version 11.2015 Beta:

• This release brings some notable improvements including a potential fix for some USB-writing bugs, a brand new terminal prompt, a bugfix for some Firefox installations, more Nvidia improvements, more Bluetooth bugfixes, and a permissions fix.

What is new in version 09.2015 Beta:

• This release brings several improvements, including improved automated hardware configuration, support for a greater range of hardware, improved default dock functionality, support for Firefox in ICE, improved UEFI support, Google Chrome 45-bringing a much needed decrease in system resource usage, support for transparency in terminal window backgrounds, improved filesystem permissions, smaller default desktop icons, and several other bugfixes.
