MIMEDefang

MIMEDefang is a flexible MIME email scanner designed to do all kinds of email processing, including anti-virus scanning, anti-spam scanning, replacing parts of messages with URLs, adding boilerplate disclaimers, and so on.

It can alter or delete various parts of a MIME message according to a Perl-based policy filter. It can also bounce messages with unacceptable attachments and modify SMTP response codes on the fly.

MIMEDefang works with the Sendmail 8.11 and newer "Milter" API, which makes it more flexible and efficient than procmail-based approaches.

What is new in this release:

• Major fixes include better startup handling to avoid a race between startup of MIMEDefang and Sendmail, and better handling of long responses from scanners so the master/slave communication protocol does not become desynchronized.

What is new in version 2.70:

• Fixed a bug in embedded Perl: We have to call PERL_SET_CONTEXT after forking or Perl gets confused. In particular, setting signal-handling dispositions using $SIG{FOO} = sub { ... } breaks.

What is new in version 2.68:

• Detect Sys::Syslog vs. Unix::Syslog at run-time rather than when running ./configure.
• Bug fix: Don't change Content-Disposition to "inline" by default. This was causing weird bugs with Outlook iCalendar attachments.
• Various crash fixes.
• Make relay_is_blacklisted and relay_is_blacklisted_multi handle IPv6 addresses.
• Make the C code call smfi_setmlreply if the milter library supports it and the Perl code returns a multi-line reply.

What is new in version 2.67:

• The multiplexor can be compiled to use "poll" instead of "select"; on many systems, this increases the number of file descriptors (and hence scanning processes) that the multiplexor can manage.
• Support for the FPROT version 6 daemonized virus scanner was added.

What is new in version 2.65:

• A bug in the initialization of the embedded Perl interpreter was fixed.
• This bug caused problems on the Debian HPPA architecture and possibly other architectures.
