qBittorrent

qBittorrent is an open source project that provides users with a capable BitTorrent client that comes loaded with all the modern functionality necessary for daily torrenting. The application is written around the Qt4 toolkit, using the libtorrent-rasterbar library, which means that it supports the Linux FreeBSD, OS/2, Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X operating systems.

Familiar, µTorrent-like GUI front-end

With its familiar, µTorrent-like GUI (Graphical User Interface) front-end, the program can be easily used by novice users. It features fast resume of unfinished downloads on startup, without the need to recheck files. Major highlights include support for magnet links, full encryption, DHT (Distributed Hash Table), peer exchange, IP filtering, as well as an extensible and well-integrated search engine.

Features at a glance

Key features include Unicode support, support for connections through proxy servers, drag & drop of torrent files, the ability to limit upload and download speeds, or limit the number of simultaneous connections. The program provides supports for UDP (User Datagram Protocol) trackers, UPnP and NAT-PMP port forwarding, bandwidth scheduler, as well as the ability to control it remotely through its web-based user interface written in Ajax.

Its IPv6 compliant

Another interesting feature is the ability to created torrents using a dedicated tool. In addition, the application provides support for RSS feeds, sequential downloading, and its IPv6 compliant. On Linux, qBittorrent is not attached to a certain desktop environment, and it can be used on any major open source window managers, including GNOME, KDE, LXDE, Xfce, Openbox, Fluxbox or Enlightenment.

A very good and reliable BitTorrent client

In addition, the application is translated in over 25 languages and can be used on any Linux-based operating system, as long as the Qt libraries are installed. It is a very good and reliable BitTorrent client that can replace the default torrent downloader of your Linux distribution at any time. We strongly suggest to give qBittorrent a try.
