When the browser is resized, columns will be added or removed accordingly.

The plugin is perfect for displaying content on very wide monitors or small iPhone screens.

Samples and documentation are included in the download package.

What is new in this release:

  • Added jQuery 1.6 support
  • Fixed an infinite loop in a rare edge case if lastNeverTallest option was set and the content forced the last column to be tallest with dontsplit CSS class
  • Fixed an IE crash if "px" was included in the width option
  • renamed float option to columnFloat since float is a reserved word
  • accuracy (optional) tells columnizer the number of characters to look before splitting between words. smaller is more accurate for column breaks.
  • Fixed columnizer removing text nodes if they are immediate children of the columnized node

What is new in version 1.4.0:

  • JavaScript events that were attached to content before it was columnized are now preserved for non-IE browsers. The workaround for IE: use the doneFunc option to reattach any event handlers after the content is columnized.
  • doneFunc option is a function input that will be called when the content has finished columnizing.
  • target option to specify where the content should be columnized. Now you can put all of your content into a hidden div, and have it columnized and displayed in it's final location. This removes the content flicker when the page loads but hasn't yet columnized.
  • ignoreImageLoading (on by default) - when this option is set to false, Columnizer will try to wait until all images in the content have loaded before columnizing. This can help maintain more consistent column heights for [un]cached data. The preferred fix is to always specify a width and height for your images in your columnized content.
  • float option lets you specify "left" or "right" floating for columns. Handy for right-to-left languages.
  • lastNeverTallest boolean option ensures that the last column is never the tallest column.

Requirements:

  • JavaScript enabled on client side
  • jQuery 1.2.6 or higher
