Brasero is an open source, free and easy to use CD/DVD burning utility that features a simple and clean graphical user interface, a powerful plugin architecture and support for the GNOME desktop environment. It is quite similar in look and functionality with the Xfburn utility from the Xfce desktop.

Supports multiple backends

The application is flexible and extensible. It supports multiple backends for CD/DVD burning operations, including cdrtools, libburn and growisofs. Brasero can be used to create data CDs and DVDs, author traditional Audio-CD discs, create 1:1 copies of CDs and DVDs, burn an existing CD/DVD image (ISO, IMG, etc.) to disc, as well as to create DVD-Video discs and Super VideoCDs.

Data CD/DVD features

Brasero allows you to add, rename, move or remove files and folders inside data CD/DVD discs, which can be burned on-the-fly, automatic filtering for unwanted files, multisession support, joliet extension support, disc integrity checker, as well as the ability to write the image to a disk drive.

Audio CD creation features

When creating traditional Audio-CDs with Brasero, you should keep in mind that the application can write CD-TEXT information, burns Audio-CD discs on-the-fly, add silence between tracks, can convert standard digital files, such as MP3, FLAC or OGG, and searches for audio files inside the folders dropped on the main window.

CD/DVD copy features

The Disc Copy function of Brasero is also important, because it will help you to copy a CD or DVD disc with data to the disk drive, create 1:1 copies of CD and DVD discs on-the-fly, and supports single-session data DVD discs and any kind of CD disc.

Bottom line

Among other features, we can mention that Brasero can erase CD and DVD discs, saves and loads projects, burns CD and DVD images in various formats, as well as CUE files, allows you to preview audio, images and video files, detects file changes for data CD/DVD, supports drag and drop of files and folders, can use files on a network, and displays the contents of a playlist.
