Super Mario Bros. Python is an open source, multiplatform and totally free video arcade game that is inspired by the original Super Mario Bros. created by Nintendo for its NES (Nintendo Entertainment System) gaming console back in 1985. At the moment, the game features four levels, as well as tutorial that will help players to easily create their own maps.
Getting started with Super Mario Bros. Python
To start the game, you must first download the universal sources archive from Softoware, save it on your computer, unpack it and open a terminal emulator. In the Linux Terminal app, use the ‘cd’ command to navigate to the location of extracted archive files and run the ‘python Super\ Mario\ Python.pyw’ command to start the game. The game is written entirely in the Python programming language and has been engineered to work on all GNU/Linux distributions, as well as on the Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X operating systems. You will need Python 2.6 or later and the powerful PyGame library to run the Super Mario Bros. Python game.It is no longer under active development
Unfortunately, the game is not perfect and no new functionality will be added in the near future, so you are free to fork it and continue the work. As of 16 November, 2013, the developer marked the project as “no longer under active development” on SourceForge, therefore it has been archived for historical references only on Softoware.What is new in this release:
- This project has been discontinued for a while now. Recently I decided to come back and work a little bit more on it. I added some new stuff and here is the new result. This will be the final version of the game, I do not intend to release any new stuff in the nearby future. The game isn't perfect and I belive it has some broken code. Anyway, it should be playable.
