This guide presents the process of installation and implementation of
EzGet 4.2 of WareMon Incorporated.
Basis
zGet
4.2 is built for servers of Windows* NT/2000/2003 and provides one unique
interface to manage clients on the mentioned operating systems. On the client
side, EzGet is built for Windows 95, 98, ME, NT, 2000, 2003 and XP.
EzGet and your
network
EzGet uses the infrastructure of your TCP/IP network to connect with the
peripherals EzGet is in charge. The management of the network with EzGet is an
easier task no matter of the size of the network.
EzGet vocabulary
Ø Database: a database Microsoft® SQL server™ or MSDE™ is mandatory to save the data and run
queries.
Ø EzGet Server: All
the files and essential services are stored on the main server, 4 services
called ‘Software pumps‘ dispatch the gathered pieces of
information in the database. Pumps and database can be hosted on a same server.
Ø Console: main
interface of EzGet.
Ø Clients: workstations,
servers, laptops and any other peripherals on the network with where the agent
of EzGet is installed. A server can handle up to 10,000 clients.
Presentation of the
Installation
This guide explains step by step the tasks of installation and
deployment. Before beginning each phase of
the installation certain pieces of information will be necessary.
Here are the details:
1 – Choice of the
engine of the database (SGBD)
a)
Installation of Microsoft MSDE.
At the first step of the installation, the choice of the type of the engine
of the database (SGBD) is important.
If your company does not have a Microsoft SQL server which can host the database
EzGet, you have here the option to install the engine of the MSDE database. EzGet requires a database to store gathered
inventory and usage information. A
database management system (SGBD) is essential to interact with this
database. For a quick installation, use
Microsoft MSDE. MSDE will be installed
and configured for you if you accept the data source by default during this
phase of installation. In this case the only
required preparation is to confirm that the server hosting the software MSDE
meets the system requirements for the execution of the databases.
Information required:

MSDE |

|
|

|
|
|
|
|
|
Requirements of the server MSDE
When you consider which server you will
configure as MSDE database server, review the requirements system mentioned below
and confirm that the server fulfils them:
For more details
concerning the product Microsoft MSDE please consult the website of Microsoft.
b) Installation of an SQL database
The
installation by default uses an MSDE Microsoft database on your server. If you do not plan to use an MSDE database by
default on the server, you must configure a database before run the program of
installation. During the installation,
you will point then towards the database lately created which will contain the
data. All the database servers must be
equipped with MDAC 2.7 minimum. If you have a principal Windows
NT/2000/2003 domain, do not
install the database on the principal controller of the domain (PDC). The database must be only installed on an standalone server.
You can install the database on the secondary controller of the domain
(BDC) in a small Windows NT/2000/2003 domain, but this operation is not
recommended.
Configuration de Microsoft SQL Server 2000
The database server requires the parameters mentioned below. These parameters are defined by default if
you use a standard installation for SQL 2000.
Basic parameters of data
Other parameters
To install the console
Web so that it uses your database SQL 2000
2 – Installation of
the database EzGet.
During this phase, you will install the database EzGet on the SQL server
or MSDE.
Information required:

|
|
|
|
|
|
If you do not have your EzGet license key, please contact your retailer or
WareMon.
1 – Company Name
2 – Total number of clients
3 - License type (1year, 2 years, …)
Estimate of the number of clients
A client is any computer where the Agent of
EzGet is installed. Although that
includes all the servers equipped with agents, the majority of the clients are
generally workstations and laptops.
During this phase, you install the 4 essential services of EzGet. The server hosting the services of EzGet does
not need to be dedicated to this application but must nevertheless have the
performances required.
Information required:
|
|
|
|
During this installation you will have to determine the repertory of
reception of the inventory files.
Server Requirements
When you consider which server
you will configure as the EzGet server, take into account the system
requirements mentioned below and confirm that the server fulfils them:
The console computer runs
the interface of the main user from which you manage activities such as the
remote control of a client, monitoring of the main database or the creation of
reports.
You can install the
console on a distinct computer, no need to install a console on the database
servers or EzGet server.
Due
to some limitations of MSDE, you can have problems of performances when the database
runs more than five concurrent tasks.
The
pump services of EzGet use full-time 3 connections to the database, it is
recommended to limit the number of consoles to 2 which will use the database
simultaneously.
During this phase, you
install the EzGet console.
Information required:
|
|
|
|
System Requirements for the console
If you plan to install a
console EzGet on a different computer, please check the system requirements
mentioned below and verify that the console meets them:
·
Windows XP Professional with SP1 or Windows 2000
Professional with SP 3,
Windows 2000 Server or
Advanced Server with SP 3,
or Windows Server 2003 edition Standard or Enterprise
·
Processor Pentium III (minimum) ; processor Pentium 4 (recommended)
·
256 Mo of RAM memory
·
180 Mo of available disk
·
Microsoft Internet Explorer version 6 or latter
5 – Installation of
the agent EzGet.
During this phase, you install the agent EzGet on the clients’
workstations.
2 methods of installation of the client are proposed
For more information, please read the Installation section of the client
EzGet, further in this document.
Information required:
|
System requirements of the client
If you plan to install
the client EzGet on computer, please check the system requirements mentioned
below and verify that the client meets them:
·
Windows 95 with
Windows 98 with
Windows NT 4 Sp4 with
Windows 2000 Professional or Advanced Server with SP 4
Windows XP with SP 1
Windows 2003 server or Advanced Server
·
Processor Pentium II (minimum)
·
64 Mo of RAM memory
·
30 Mo of Disk available
·
TCP/IP
Caution:
The installation
on one of the following platforms, Windows 95, Windows98 and Windows NT,
requires the preliminary installation of Windows Management Instrumentation
(WMI).
The installation
CD of EzGet contains the installation programs of WMI for platforms 95, 98 and
NT (see the chapter installation of the client for more information)
For further
information relating to WMI, please consult Internet website of Microsoft.
SQL – MSDE 2000 |
|
Notes : If
you do not have a Microsoft SQL 2000™ server or MSDE 2000™ capable to host
the database of the EzGet application, the program Setup
SQL-MSDE.exe included on
the CD of installation allows installing in a few minutes the engine of the database
Microsoft Desktop Engine (MSDE). Constraints dues to MSDE: Using
a MSDE database limits the database to 2Gb, with 5
connections opened simultaneously (3 connections are permanently used for the
needs of EzGet). It remains 2 possible
installations of client console. The
agents/clients EzGet do not require direct connections to the database. These limitations do not happen with
Microsoft SQL Server. For
more information on the product MSDE, please visit Internet website of
Microsoft. |
|
