CuteMarkEd (Cute Markup Editor) is an open source and cross-platform application that provides users with a feature rich markdown editor for GNU/Linux and Microsoft Windows operating systems.

Features at a glance

Key features include live HTML preview, code syntax highlighting, math expressions, multiple styles, PDF and HTML export, document statistics, spell checking, as well as syntax highlighting of markdown documents.

The application has been designed from the ground up to allow users to edit markdown file in style. It provides users with multiple ways to view, as well as to export generated HTML files. Furthermore, users can also access suggestions via the context menu.

During the actual editing process, users can preview the Markdown document in HTML, in real time, thanks to the built-in live preview functionality that’s updated instantly. It is possible to export a Markdown file to PDF or HTML documents, as well as to see a word count at all times.

Thanks to the Highlight.js JavaScript library, the application can automatically render in the HTML preview, supporting highlighting syntax in code blocks. In addition, it boast a modern spell checker functionality that will highlight all misspelled words with red wavy lines.

Availability and under the hood

Under the hood, we can report that the application has been written entirely in the C++ programming language, and its graphical user interface is written with the help of the cross-platform Qt GUI toolkit.

Officially supported GNU/Linux distributions include the openSUSE and Fedora operating systems. However, the project is also distributed as a source archive designed to allow users to configure, compile and install the application in any Linux distro.
