Heat.js does not record data points and then generates heatmaps, it needs a data series supplied to it by a developer.
Its feature set allows it to interpret these data points, read their frequency and density on a surface, and then utilizing the HTML5 canvas element draw a heat map out of them.
Heat.js can work with thousands of data points without faulting, and also supports lazy-loading operations.
Three heatmap types are supported, along with the option to display the heatmap at desired dimensions, use custom colors, set a custom opacity, and so on.
