Prometheus

Prometheus is basically a server application which scrapes various sources for information and stores the results in a time-series format.

The server includes its own muti-dimensional data model and query language to interrogate the collected data, along with a series of client libraries to let developers interact with the information it gathers.

There are also a command-line query tool and Web-based GUI (named PromDash) coded in Ruby on Rails. These will let programmers easily query & filter the stored information and view it using graphs and charts.

Prometheus also features a scalable and decentralized architecture, allowing you to easily set it up wherever you need it, and then easily grow it along with the monitored data.

All in all, Prometheus is not only great because of its open source licensing model, but also due to the fact it's been already in usage since 2012 at SoundCloud, in-depth documentation, and ability to adapt to any type of server setup, metrics, and monitoring scenario.

What is new in this release:

• CHANGES:
• More efficient JSON result format in query API. This requires up-to-date versions of PromDash and prometheus_cli, too.
• ENHANCEMENT:
• Excluded non-minified Bootstrap assets and the Bootstrap maps from embedding into the binary. Those files are only used for debugging, and then you can use -web.use-local-assets. By including fewer files, the RAM usage during compilation is much more manageable.
