Bitnami Moodle Module is a free and cross-platform software project, a module that can be used on top of a Bitnami LAMP stack, specially designed for the Moodle software. Bitnami's native installers and modules automate the setup of a Bitnami application stack on GNU/Linux, Mac OS X and Microsoft Windows operating systems.
What is Moodle?
Moodle a free and open source web-based application that has been designed to be used as a course management system. It is created using sound pedagogical principles, which will help educators create effective online learning communities. Key features include role-based permissions, a simple interface, advanced reporting, a well-documented API, drag-and-drop functionality, as well as support for several languages.
Installing Bitnami Moodle Module
As mentioned, Bitnami Moodle Module is distributed as native installers, which are built using BitRock’s cross-platform installer tool and designed to work on any distribution of Linux. To install Moodle on top of a Bitnami LAMP server, download the binary package that corresponds to your computer’s arch (64-bit or 32-bit), run it and follow the instructions displayed on the screen.
Run Moodle on the cloud or virtualize it
In addition to installing Moodle on top of a LAMP, WAMP or MAMP stack, you can also run it on the cloud using Bitnami’s pre-built cloud images for Windows Azure and Amazon EC2 cloud hosting providers, as well as to virtualize it by using BitNami’s Ubuntu-based virtual appliance for the Oracle VirtualBox and VMware ESX/ESXi virtualization software.
The Moodle Docker container and stack
Besides the Bitnami Moodle Module product reviewed here, Bitnami offers an all-in-one solution that greatly simplifies the installation and hosting of the Moodle web-based application on personal computers. Bitnami Moodle Stack is available for download on Softoware, free of charge. A Moodle Docker container will also be available for download on the project’s homepage.
