Bitnami Gitorious Stack is freely distributed software project that has been designed from the ground up to greatly simplify the deployment of the Gitorious application and its runtime dependencies on desktop computers or laptops. It can be deployed using native installers, virtual machines, cloud images, as well as a Docker container.

What is Gitorious?

Gitorious provides an open source, platform-independent and free infrastructure for hosting projects that use Git. It also supports projects with wikis, a web interface for merge requests and code reviews and activity timelines for projects and developers.

Installing Bitnami Gitorious Stack

The Bitnami Gitorious Stack native installers were packaged using BitRock's cross platform installer tool, which means that it is supported on all GNU/Linux distributions. However, they’re not available for Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X operating systems.

To install Gitorious on your personal computer, simply download the native installer package that corresponds to your computer’s hardware architecture (32-bit or 64-bit), make it executable, run it and follow the instructions displayed on the screen.

Run Gitorious in the cloud

In addition to installing Gitorious on your personal computer, you can also run it in the cloud using Bitnami’s pre-built cloud images for Amazon EC2 and Windows Azure cloud hosting providers.

Bitnami’s Gitorious virtual appliance

Bitnami also offers a virtual appliance for the Gitorious application, which allows you to virtualize it on the Oracle VirtualBox or VMware ESX and ESXi virtualization software. The virtual appliance is based on the latest stable release of the world’s most popular free operating system, Ubuntu.

The Gitorious Docker container

On the project’s homepage (see link below for details), Bitnami will provide users with a Gitorious Docker container. Unfortunately, a Bitnami Gitorious Module is not available for download at this time, which could have allowed users to deploy Gitorious on LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP) stacks.
