Bitnami CrushFTP Stack is a cross-platform and freely distributed software project that has been created from the ground up to enable anyone to install the CrushFTP web-based application and its runtime dependencies on personal computers and laptops. It’s an all-in-one installer that includes ready-to-run versions of the Apache web server, CrushFTP file transfer app, and Java Runtime Environment (JRE).
What is CrushFTP?
CrushFTP is an open source and completely free web-based software that has been designed from the offset to act as a file transfer application that runs via any modern web browser and it is supported on all mainstream operating systems, including GNU/Linux, Solaris, BSD, Microsoft Windows, and Mac OS X. The software includes a number of attractive features that can be discovered on its official website.
Installing Bitnami CrushFTP Stack
The Bitnami CrushFTP Stack installer will run on any GNU/Linux distribution, as well as on the Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X operating systems. To install CrushFTP on your Linux kernel-based operating system, you must download the pre-built binary package that corresponds to your computer’s CPU architecture, 32 or 64-bit, make it executable (right click on it, go to Properties, access the Permissions tab, and check the “Allow executing file as program” option), double click the .run file, and follow the on-screen instructions.
Run CrushFTP in the cloud or virtualize it
In addition to installing CrushFTP on personal computers, you can also run it in the cloud, thanks to Bitnami’s pre-build cloud images designed especially for Google Cloud, Amazon EC2, and Windows Azure cloud hosting platforms. You can also virtualize CrushFTP on an Oracle VirtualBox or VMware ESX/ESXi virtual machine using Bitnami’s virtual appliance based on the latest LTS release of the Ubuntu Linux operating system.
The Bitnami CrushFTP Module and Docker container
Besides the Bitnami CrushFTP Stack product reviewed here, Bitnami also offers a module for its LAMP, MAMP and WAMP stacks, allowing the user to more easily deploy the CrushFTP software on personal computer, without having to deal with its runtime dependencies. A CrushFTP Docker container will also be available on the project’s website.
