SNEP is an open source, free and platform-independent telephony software implemented in PHP and designed from the ground up to act as a web-based interface for the widely used and powerful Asterisk PBX (Private Branch Exchange) software.
It features high level control over users administration and routing, making the administration of an Asterisk PBX server easier to non-technical users. Support for the application is provided on IRC at Freenode, via #snep channel.
Distributed as a 32-bit ISO based on Debian, for Portuguese users
The project is currently distributed as a standalone software for Debian-based operating systems, such as Ubuntu and Linux Mint, as well as an installable-only ISO image based on the Debian GNU/Linux operating system. Both the ISO image and the web-based application are available only for the Brazilian Portuguese community.
Installing the SNEP operating system
Please note that the ISO image comprises of software packages optimized only for the 32-bit hardware platform. It should fit in a CD disc, but it can also be written onto a DVD media or on a USB flash drive. From the boot menu, users will be able to start the installation or access various advanced settings, such as expert installation, rescue mode or automated install.
Being based on Ubuntu/Debian, the ISO image uses a text-mode installer that requires users to choose a language to use for the entire installation process and for the final system, select their location, enter a password or the root account, create a new user, partition the disk, select packages to install, as well as to install the GRUB bootloader.
