ObexFTP is an important, free and open source command-line software project that has been engineered to enable users to easily and quickly access the internal memory of a mobile device from a GNU/Linux console environment.

Supports Samsung, Nokia and Motorola mobile phones

The ObexFTP project is a library, an implementation of the Object Exchange (OBEX) protocol, a binary HTTP (Hypertext Transfer Protocol) protocol. Among the supported mobile devices, we can mention Samsung, Nokia, Motorola, Siemens, and Sony-Ericsson.

ObexFTP is mostly used to access a mobile phone’s memory, in order to store and retrieve the device’s phonebook, ringtones, logos, pictures, music, etc. It only supports GNU/Linux and UNIX-like operating systems, running well on both 32-bit and 64-bit computers.

Offers powerful command-line options

The program comes with a wide range of command-line options that allow you to easily connect to a mobile device using the IrDA transport, to use or search a bluetooth device, to use a specific bluetooth channel when connecting, to connect to a USB interface, to list available USB interfaces, to connect to a specific TTY using a custom transport, or to connect to a specific host.

In addition, you can retrieve capability object, report and probe device characteristics, list a given or the current folder, create folders, specify the target file name, fetch files, delete files, move files, send files, as well as to retrieve infos (only on Siemens devices).

Getting started with ObexFTP

ObexFTP can be easily installed on any distribution of GNU/Linux. Just download the latest source package from Softoware, save it on your PC and unpack it. Then, open a Terminal app and go to the location of the extracted archive files (e.g. cd /home/softoware/obexftp-0.24-Source).

Run the ‘cmake .’ command to configure the project. Then, run the ‘make’ command to compile it, followed by the ‘sudo make install’ command to install it system wide and make available to all users on your system.

What is new in this release:

  • Maintainer changed from Christian to Hendrik
  • Change build system to using CMake
  • Integrate obexfs-0.12
  • Fix build for OpenOBEX-1.7

Requirements:
