Xt7-Player

Xt7-player is an open source video playback application, designed as a graphical user interface (GUI) front-end for the well known MPlayer command-line multimedia playback utility available on the Linux platform.

Features at a glance

The application comes with built-in support for a wide range of video and audio file formats, as well as support for network streams, audio and subtitle substreams, multiple playlists, and large collections of multimedia files.

In addition, it includes real-time audio filters, smart configuration of video and audio filters, support for downloading subtitle streams from the Opensubtitles.org website, as well as support for reading and writing artwork and metadata for both audio and video files.

Another interesting feature is the ability to watch YouTube streams, as well as any other Flash-based audio or video files. Furthermore, it grabs detailed information about an Audio-CD from CDDB (Compact Disc Database), and supports podcasts and shoutcasts media providers.

Audio and video equalizers, quick access to any MPlayer option, real-time A/V capture functionality, DVD-Video playback (with menus), the ability to save and load application’s settings, and support for multiple profiles are also provided by default.

Under the hood, supported distributions and availability

While the application is written in Gambas, its user interface is designed in Qt and requires the taglib library for reading and writing audio tags, Python2 for Opensubtitles.org integration, xbindkeys for supporting global and local keyboard shortcuts, linuxtv-dvb-apps for DVB-T support, and dvbsnoop for grabbing EPG (Electronic Program Guide) data.

It is distributed as a universal source archive that can be used to configure, compile and install the application in any Linux-based operating system, as well as binary packages for the Arch Linux, Mandriva, Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora, openSUSE and Slackware Linux distributions.

Bottom line

Summing up, Xt7-Player is a great multimedia playback application for Linux-based operating systems. It provides users with a powerful interface to the amazing MPlayer application.
