Rally

Rally project is a part of the Crow Designer project and it was developed as a sample GuiLoader-based application. This front end provides RPM package management functionality via an intuitive tree-less graphical interface. Users are able to browse available repositories, search for packages, perform updates, installations and removals.

Rally employs Parallel Installer which downloads and updates packages simultaneously - potentially reaching a vast performance boost. The name of this application reflects its orientation for speedy and reliable processing, having the same meaning as in e.g. "Paris-Dakar endurance rally".

About Crow Designer

Crow is a modern GUI builder for the GTK+ toolkit. It is an advanced IDE-embeddable RAD tool designed to fulfill the needs of desktop programmers who want to create multi-platform GTK+ based applications with minimal GUI coding. Crow is full-featured yet lightweight: its tree-based Property Explorer solves many GUI constructing tasks in a versatile manner without additional popup dialogs. About GuiLoader Library

GuiLoader is a high-performance and compact GuiXml loader library. This library allows GTK+ applications to create GUI widgets and objects at run-time from GuiXml resource files. GuiLoader is written in the C language as a GObject subclass and has a trivial language-independent API. GuiLoader was designed to be easily wrapped for any language that has GTK+ bindings.

What is new in version 0.4.91:

• This release fixes a critical bug related to a redundant close(2) call in FileWriter (a possible cause of the "sporadic EBADF" problem), fixes a GUI crash which happened after changing a list of active repositories, adds a fallback timeout handler for the downloader (fixing the "downloader timeouts" problem), includes changes for RPM 4.6 compatibility, and implements tabular output in the CLI utility with the usage of pseudographics.

• Software logic was extracted into a separate library (librally.so).
• A CLI utility with basic functionality was added.
• Rally system settings now are saved in the /etc/rally.conf file.
• Script output interception was introduced (rpmtsSetScriptFd is being used).
• Logging of execution was added. Parameter substitution is now correctly performed for the addresses in the list of mirrors (rpmfusion).
