Headstart is a tool for automatically installing a default project setup. It's a little hard to understand what exactly it does, so bare with us.

Let's say you're developing websites or Web apps and after months or years of working in the industry you have your own way of setting up your files and folders for each of your projects.

Headstart can help you with this setup by running a simple command in your terminal that automatically sets up this "default project architecture" every time you need it.

By default Headstart comes with its own boilerplate, but developers can easily change this to their own with just a few modifications.

Once you wrote your code and your project is done, Headstart can also be used to automate the building process, converting SASS to CSS, minifying HTML, CSS & JS code, and running Grunt or Gulp tasks if present.

And if that's not enough, there's also a built-in Web server to preview your files while developing or before launching them into production.

Features:

  • Works across all major operating systems
  • Comes with a default project setup
  • Supports custom default boilerplates
  • HTML code verification (via the W3C Validator)
  • SASS to CSS compilation
  • CSS minification
  • HTML minification
  • Merge and minify JavaScript files
  • CSS and JS file versioning
  • SVG optimization
  • Image optimization
  • Proper icon/favicon generation
  • Synchronize rendering across multiple devices/browsers
  • Get Google PageSpeed Insights
  • Browser live reload feature
  • Static file serving
  • Grunt and Gulp support
  • GitHub integration

What is new in this release:

  • Reintroduced console output on file changes to show that things are working.
  • Added an optional configuration setting that enables using a different name for the assets folder.

What is new in version 1.3.1:

  • Fixed a bug that prevented the browser from reloading when changes were made.

What is new in version 1.3.0:

  • Removed revisioning of non-default files such as fonts, videos, etc. because there is no automated way (yet) of updating references elsewhere.
  • Switched tunneling to Localtunnel through Browsersync.
  • A custom tunnel can now be set through the `--tunnel` flag.
  • Added more optional configuration settings.

What is new in version 1.2.3:

  • Fix for missing view-specific JS files.
