Parsedown is a very fast and reliable solution for parsing Markdown text.
Besides the standard syntax introduced by John Gruber a few years back, it also supports the modified version working on GitHub (also known as GitHub Flavored Markdown).
Under the hood, Parsedown is nothing more than a simple PHP class packaged for Composer, that doesn't actually do anything on its own, but can work wonders if integrated with WYSIWYG editors, page previewing tools, CMSs, etc..
