dropcap.js is developed by Adobe's Web Platform team, and was built to help implement cross-browser, CSS-based drop capitals for your text.
While this can easily be achieved via CSS alone without the help of JavaScript, the alignment of the main capital letter is almost always off compared to the rest of the text's baseline.
dropcap.js will automatically adjust text settings so the bottom part of the capital letter sits on one of the rows' baseline while the top part doesn't go off the cap height of the first row.
This makes visually pleasant drop caps that will satisfy any hardcore typography aficionado.
Library parameters will allow developers to sync the letter's height with its position, control the drop cap size, its font family, and also control some of the adjoining paragraph's settings.
Since the library is quite easy to load and customize for any page, you can use it as a standalone script or you can integrate it with other platforms via plugins or add-ons.
A sample page is included with the dropcap.js download package.
