Decoda can be used as the base of your rich text editor or just to automatically format and display text passed to it via a form or other user input means.
The library comes with various filters that allow it to easily recognize formatting tags inside the text, and then use this tags to apply HTML formatting later on.
Besides filters, various text formats are automatically recognized as well, text formats like email addresses, URLs and iframe (video) embed codes.
Decoda can also be used to display more complex text blocks, like source code, tables, and complex blockquotes.
Besides the classic rich text editing features, Decoda also comes with some extra features provided by its PHP core, features like the ability to censor words, use templates for printing out the final text, text-to-smiley support, l10n features, nested tags, automatically tag closing, and error logging.
The current library requirements apply to the 6.x branch. Other branches have fewer requirements. Branch 5.x works with PHP 5.3+ and Composer, branch 4.x works with PHP 5.3+, and branch 3.x works with PHP 5.2+.
Decoda is also available as a JS-based WYSIWYG editor working on top of the MooTools or jQuery frameworks.
