TurnKey GNU social Live CD is an open source and freely distributed operating system that provides users with an easy-to-use and portable utility (appliance) for deploying dedicated servers with the GNU social software.

The project includes all the necessary components, such as the Apache web server, the MySQL database server, PHP, SSH, Webmin, phpMyAdmin, and a Postfix email server. It is based on the Debian GNU/Linux distribution.

Previously known as Laconica and then StatusNet, GNU social is an open source microblogging system, similar to Twitter. This TurnKey appliance includes upstream StatusNet configurations, which are installed by default in /var/www/statusnet.

In addition, it includes phpMyAdmin for administering the MySQL database server, a Postfix MTA (Mail Transfer Agent) server for sending emails from web apps, various Webmin modules for configuring Apache, MySQL, Postfix and PHP, as well as support for secure connections via the SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) specification.

The default username for the Webmin, SSH, phpMyAdmin and MySQL components is root, and the system administrator password can be entered during the first boot configuration process, where you can also add a new password for the MySQL 'root' account, as well as a new password and a valid email address for the GNU social 'administrator' account.

It is also a must to enter the domain to serve GNU social during the first boot configuration process, as well as to initialize the TurnKey Migration, Backup, Domain Management and Dynamic DNS hub services.

This TurnKey appliance is distributed as two Live CD ISO images, supporting 64-bit (amd64) architectures, as well as ready-to-use virtual images for Xen, OpenStack, OpenNode, OVF and OpenVZ virtualization technologies.

Don't forget to write down the IP addresses and ports for the active services of this appliance, which are displayed on the TurnKey Linux Configuration Console, at the end of the first boot setup process.
