Audiophile Linux is an open source and free operating system whose first priority is audio processing, allowing you to listen to your entire digital music using high-quality software and the latest Linux technologies. While old versions are derived from Linux Mint, the latest release is based on the Arch Linux distribution. It is built around the Openbox window manager.

Bootable on 32-bit and 64-bit architectures

This custom Arch Linux operating system is distributed as a zip archive of approximately 1.3 GB in size, which contains various files required for deploying the operating system on a USB flash drive of 2GB or higher capacity. It runs on both 32-bit (i386) and 64-bit (x86_64) hardware platforms.

Requires Redobackup for installation

Unfortunately, the distribution is not available for download as an ISO image, which means that in order to install it, you will have to download the Redobackup Linux operating system and follow the comprehensive instructions available on the http://www.ap-linux.com/documentation/install-instructions-v3-0/ web page.

Lightweight graphical interface powered by Openbox

The Openbox window manager is used in this distribution, providing users with a lightweight and extremely fast desktop experience. It comprises of a single taskbar (panel) located on the bottom edge of the screen, from where you can interact with opened programs and navigate between virtual workspaces.

Includes a standard set of open source applications

No surprises here, as the distro includes a standard set of open source applications, among which we can mention the DeaDBeeF, Banshee and Audacious audio players, VLC Media Player, Totem video player, LibreOffice office suite, Mozilla Firefox web browser, Mozilla Thunderbird email and news client, Transmission torrent downloader, Pidgin IM client and XChat IRC client.

Bottom line

In conclusion, Audiophile Linux is a fast and free distribution of Linux for audiophiles. The audio signal travels from the playback software to the external sound card with much greater efficiency and speed, when using Audiophile Linux.
