Pasang Emas is an open source and completely free graphical software project implemented in C around the GTK+ toolkit and designed from the offset to provide users with a traditional game of Brunei, tailored specifically for Linux and UNIX-like operating systems.

In this game, you will find both white and black tokens automatically arranged on a playing board, in the form of a pattern. More than 30 different patterns are provided by default, and many of them resemble decorations that are mostly seen on kain tenun or kain songket, Brunei's traditional cloth.

Who to play?

To play the game, two players will take turns capturing these tokens, while scoring 2 points for each white one, and 1 point for each black token. The game will end when a player runs out of moves or when the board is empty. In the end, the player with most captured tokens will win the game.

Getting started with Pasang Emas

The best way to install and play this game on your GNU/Linux operating system is to open the default package manager application, search for the pasang-emas package on the main software repositories of your distribution and install it with a couple mouse clicks.

If the game is not available as a binary package for your Linux distro, you have to download and install the native binary package for 32-bit (i386) Ubuntu or Debian-based distributions, or to download the source archive and the themes package.

Installing Pasang Emas from sources is a bit complicated, as the themes must also be manually installed under the ~/.pasang-emas/themes/ directory, otherwise the game won’t even start.

Therefore, download both archives, unpack them, open the Terminal app, navigate to the location of the main archive (e.g. cd /home/softoware/pasang-emas-4.0.0), run the ‘./configure && make’ command to configure and compile the program, followed by the ‘sudo make install’ command to install it. Do the same for the themes package, then start the game from the main menu of your desktop environment.
