Serif works by using Markdown files and syntax to let users add their site's content, which gets printed on the frontend using predefined templates.

Basically just like any other static site generator. The difference is Serif's optional admin panel, which not only makes it possible to edit content using a visual interface in the browser, but also allows users to save blog posts as drafts, and also preview them before publishing.

The admin panel also comes with a set of browser bookmarklets that can be used for easily saving content on the Web as a draft on the blog, easily adding and managing blog inspiration sources and post suggestions.

There's also support for drag-and-drop image uploading, and lots of documentation to help any developer install and customize Serif the way he wants.

What is new in this release:

  • Added Ruby 2.1.0 support.
  • Enabled Markdown table parsing.
  • Improved quick draft HTML to Markdown conversion.
  • Replaced Redcarpet with kramdown for Markdown rendering.
  • Fixed a bug where draft content gets lost when there are errors saving.
